O'Connor opened the scoring after just seven minutes when got his head to a Chris Scannell cross to turn the ball past David Miskelly.

And Scannell got in on the act himself after 28 minutes with a simple tap-in after Miskelly had pushed out an initial Ciaran Caldwell effort.

The Ports pulled one back just before half-time, though, when Reds 'keeper John Connolly touched the ball into his own net whilst attempting to keep out a Tim Mouncey header from a Gary McCutcheon corner.

After the break Andy Hunter came mightily close to levelling for the visitors with a 30-yard free-kick which smashed against the crossbar while, at the other end, defender Declan O'Hara almost beat Miskelly from his own half with a looping effort which forced the 'keeper to scramble the ball away via a finger tip save.
