Ards, protecting a 12-game unbeaten run, had moved in front in the 28th when Darren Fitzgerald converted a spot-kick after he been pushed in the area.

But Morgan opened his account on 33 minutes to level with the easiest of close range tap-ins from an Emmett Friars header while, on 41 minutes, it was Newry's turn to be awarded a penalty following a foul on Ross Black with skipper Richard Clarke confidently converting.

Morgan then put the game beyond reach three minutes later when he pounced on an Alan Davidson effort that had come back off an upright.

And he laid claim to the match ball six minutes into the second half when he finished off a three man move to sweep the ball past Ards 'keeper Andy McDonald.

The scoring was completed on 72 minutes when the impressive Davidson cut a swathe through the home defence to beat McDonald from ten yards.
