Glenavon 0-1 Portadown
Carling Premiership - Friday, 26th February, 2010
PORTADOWN took another step closer to achieving a top six place courtesy of this Mid-Ulster derby victory over Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

The Lurgan Blues created a number of first half chances, coming closest on 11 minutes when Rory Hamill turned a Trevor Molloy cross just the wrong side of the far post.

Portadown almost went in at the break in front, though, when a Johnny Topley header was pushed out by 'keeper Andrew Plummer while, early in the second half, Gary McCutcheon almost made the most of a Mark Haughey error only for Plummer to once again deal with the danger.

But the visitors did make the breakthrough on 69 minutes when Andy Hunter got on the end of a corner to head the ball in off an upright from close range.

Glenavon might have snatched a point late on, however, only for Barry Johnston's effort to be stopped on the line by David Miskelly.
