After a somewhat cagey opening the deadlock was broken on 32 minutes when Alan Teggart delivered a low cross from the left for Lecky to turn home from six yards at the near post.

The visitors doubled their advantage in first half stoppage time after Andy Hunter sent over a free-kick from the right for Lecky power his way through the home defence to head the ball into the bottom left corner.

Kevin Braniff then made the most of a Ross Black defensive error on 56 minutes to bring the ball forward from 30 yards and knock it under 'keeper Neil Gallagher to put the game beyond Newry's reach.

The Ports grabbed their fourth on 62 minutes when Emmett Friars slipped whilst in possession in the middle of the park allowing Lecky to race forward and slot the ball past Gallagher from a tight angle.

City did score in the 73rd minute after Friars redeemed himself a little with a close range volley but, within two minutes, Portadown struck again when Lecky found Gary McCutcheon unmarked with the Scot duly converting the gilt-edged chance.
