Portadown 2-0 Glenavon
Carling Premiership - Saturday, 17th October, 2009
PORTADOWN put a spanner in Glenavon's title hopes with this derby victory at Shamrock Park, their first in almost two years.

The Ports moved into an early lead when, on nine minutes, Tim Mouncey sent a header past Andrew Plummer after meeting an Alan Teggart cross from the left.

Ronnie McFall's side might have doubled their advantage a few minutes later only for John Convery's cross-cum-shot to crash back off the crossbar.

Glenavon's best effort of the first half came courtesy of James Costello who found his way past Convery and Ross Redman only for Neil Armstrong to turn his subsequent shot away.

After the break Willo McDonagh came close to finding a 50th minute equaliser over to head over when well placed after Tony Grant had knocked on a Paul Carvill corner.

Then, on 63 minutes, Alan Teggart would have knocked home a second for Portadown only for Mark Gracey to throw his body in front of a six yard shot.

But it was game over five minutes from time when Richard Lecky fired high into the net from a Gary McCutcheon cross to ensure the victory for the Ports.
