Linfield 2-1 Glentoran
Carling Premiership - Saturday, 17th October, 2009
LINFIELD moved into second spot in the Carling Premiership following this derby day defeat of champions Glentoran at Windsor Park.

The Blues might have stormed into the lead after just two minutes when Mark Miskimmin crashed the ball against the crossbar with Elliott Morris beaten.

But they did move in front on 29 minutes when Jim Ervin sent a clinical spot-kick past Morris high to the left after Michael Carvill had been brought down by Paul Leeman.

Then, seven minutes later, it was 2-0 when Miskimmin lobbed Morris after connecting with a Billy Joe Burns ball.

Paul Munster might have headed home a third just before the hour when he got on the end of a loose ball in the area but was unable to keep it on target.

However, the Glens pulled one back on 74 minutes when a Colin Nixon effort was pushed out by Stuart Addis only as far as Michael Halliday who knocked it on for Andrew Waterworth to send into the empty net from two yards out.

This led to a late rally which saw the Glens pepper the home goal but they were unable to find a way back into the game.
