Dungannon Swifts 6-2 Institute
Co-operative Insurance Cup - Saturday, 5th December, 2009
ALAIN Emerson bagged a hat-trick as Dungannon Swifts hit Institute for six at Stangmore Park to put one foot in the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-finals.

The former Crusaders frontman struck after just seven minutes when he met a Neil McCafferty free-kick to power a header past Gavin Cullen.

And he doubled up just four minutes later after Ryan McIlmoyle delivered a corner and he managed to scramble the ball home to give the Swifts an early commanding lead.

Then, on 36 minutes, he laid claim to the match ball when he met another McIlmoyle corner.

'Stute pulled one back four minutes into the second half through Austin Friel when he directed a free-kick beyond Alvin Rouse but Marc McCann restored Dungannon's three-goal cushion eight minutes later when he fired from the right over Cullen's head while, nine minutes after that, Michael Ward ran onto a McIlmoyle through ball to make it 5-1.

David Ogilby handed 'Stute a faint glimmer of hope four minutes from time with a superbly struck 35-yard free-kick which beat Cullen inside the right post but McCann turned home another McIlmoyle cross in stoppage time to give the Swifts an almost insurmountable four goal advantage going into the return.
