Glenavon 3-1 Newington YC
JJB Sports Irish Cup - Tuesday, 3rd February, 2009
NEW GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn got his tenure at Mourneview Park off to a winning start with this JJB Sports Irish Cup defeat of Newington YC.

The Lurgan Blues just needed 20 minutes to take the lead when Conor Walsh - via a deflection - volleyed home an Eamon Murray corner.

That was how it stayed until nine minutes from time, though, when Tony Grant eventually secured Glenavon's fifth round berth when he turned home a Trevor Molloy cross from the byline.

Newington pulled one back four minutes later, however, through Sean Adams who nodded past Tuda Murphy after meeting a corner which had been cleared and then knocked back into the area.

But Paul Carvill restored Glenavon's two goal cushion on 90 minutes after Newington 'keeper David Gibson failed to gather another Murray corner.
