Coleraine 1-0 Lisburn Distillery
Co-operative Insurance Cup - Tuesday, 1st December, 2009
COLERAINE reached the last eight of the Co-operative Insurance Cup by the narrowest of margins at the expense of Lisburn Distillery.

The Bannsiders recovered from their first leg deficit to emerge 5-4 victors at the end of a nail-biting penalty shoot-out to set up a quarter-final clash with Cliftonville.

With the Whites already a goal to the good they knew that grabbing another at The Showgrounds could well put the issue to bed and started brightly with both Davitt Walsh and Glenn Ferguson being denied within the opening ten minutes.

At the other end Kyle McVey was thwarted by a goalline Peter McCann clearance while Darren Boyce was presented with several opportunities, all of them proving fruitless.

However, leading scorer Rory Patterson levelled matters overall on the hour when his free-kick from just outside the area was deflected past Whites 'keeper Philip Matthews.

With the sides proving inseperable the game drifted into extra-time and, ultimately, penalties.

The Bannsiders converted all theirs (Richard Gibson, Kyle McVey, Matt Crossan, Darren Boyce, Eunan O'Kane) as did the Whites (Peter McCann, Glenn Ferguson, David McAlinden, Andrew Kilmartin) before the unfortunate Neal Gawley stepped up to blast the ball over the crossbar thus handing victory to David Platt's Coleraine.
